Commercial posture

This site is not run for profit. It is free to read in full, carries no advertising, has no paywall or subscription, and neither sells nor licenses access to its data or its readers. Nobody pays to appear here, to be described a particular way, or to be left out.

Independence, stated so you can check it

"Unbiased" is a claim nobody can verify. These are mechanisms you can audit instead:

• Every published figure derives from public primary records — permits, regulatory filings, agency databases, satellite products and open maps. Each reading carries its source.
• No corporate disclosure enters the measurement chain. Where a company's own figures exist, they are recorded as claims to be tested, never as readings.
• No language model produces any published number. Collection, entity resolution, statistics and conclusions are deterministic code; conclusions are fixed rules over readings.
• Every instrument, its holdings, its source and its licence are listed in the data catalogue — including instruments that collect but are not yet displayed.
• Where the instrument cannot see something it says BLIND and records why. It never reports an unmeasured quantity as zero.
• Negative results are published as findings. Where a WAPR reading has been wrong, the correction is published with the original.

Data, licences and attribution

WAPR compiles openly published material. Licences differ by source and are recorded per instrument in the catalogue rather than summarised here, so this page cannot drift out of step with what the collectors actually use.

Two govern much of the site: facility geometry and tags come from OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL, whose share-alike terms follow any derived database; water-stress and power-plant reference data come from the World Resources Institute under CC BY 4.0. Material from US federal agencies (EIA, EPA, NOAA, USGS, FAA, SEC) is public-domain government work. If you reuse WAPR's compiled output, attribute WAPR and carry the upstream licence — ODbL-derived material stays ODbL.

Corrections and right of reply

If you are named here and believe a reading is wrong, write to us with the primary record that shows it. Sourced readings drawn from public records are not deleted on request — but a correction, or your reply, is published alongside the reading, and the original entry is kept so the change is visible rather than silent.

This matters more than it sounds: an instrument that quietly edits its own history cannot be audited. Corrections here are additive by design.

Accuracy and limits

Readings carry error bars and a validity lamp showing how fresh the underlying data is. Estimates are labelled as estimates; anything resting on a single unverified source is labelled unverified. Nothing here is investment, legal, engineering or safety advice.

The site is provided as-is, without warranty. Use of any figure is at your own risk, and figures should be checked against the primary source cited beside them before anything consequential rests on them.

Privacy

WAPR sets no tracking cookies, runs no advertising, and carries no analytics or behavioural-tracking scripts. We do not build profiles of readers, and there is no account to create.

Honest disclosure of what your browser does contact, and when. Pages are served through Cloudflare, which processes requests and may log them for security and abuse prevention. Typography loads from Google Fonts on every page. When you open the Explorer map, your browser requests map tiles from OpenFreeMap and satellite imagery from NASA GIBS; each time you click a point, it fetches live conditions for that location directly from NOAA, USGS, the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo. Those requests happen automatically as you use the map, and each one reaches that provider with your IP address, as any web request does. What those providers do with it is governed by their policies, not ours. We receive none of it back, and we build no profile of you.

Changes

These terms may change as the instrument does. Material changes are recorded in the project's public history rather than replaced silently.
